Staged to Death A Caprice De Luca Mystery Karen Rose Smith Books Reviews
This book was dreadful. So much description and over description. Horrible plot line. Annoying characters. A terrible example of a cozy mystery. This is on my list of worst books I have read, and likely one of the most poorly written.
I'm glad to see that the cozy mysteries have really taken off. They've become my favorite books to read. There's no bad language, no heavy sex scenes, a good mystery, I like the animals that play an important part of the story, and lots more. Naturally I like the heroine and hero plus family and friends. This book has all those features to be enjoyed. Oh, I can't skip the romance part.
First book I have read by Karen Rose Smith, I did enjoy the characters and the staging of homes theme was something I could envision, and haven't read a book with this type of character before. The characters were believable, and they were fun. Liked the magnetism between Caprice and the two eligible males, hope it doesn't get to the point where every book teeters back and forth between them, I like to see decisions made and go from there.
Thoroughly and enjoyable read and recommend to Cozy Mystery readers!!
This is the first book in the series, it stretched on and on a bit...We knew from the get go that the friend was innocent, but the truth just seemed to be constantly out of reach and Caprice kept doing silly things...use common sense and follow the correct clues. I did however read the second book in the series and I do kind of like the characters so I will continue reading the series...
I was actually enjoying the mystery and looking forward to a great ending, but as I got closer and closer to the end of the book I got concerned about how the author would solve the mystery and pull everything together in so few pages. I was right to be concerned. The ending was greatly disappointing. It was rushed and not satisfying at all. I do like the main character, and I will read more in the series in the hopes that the author develops a better sense of timing for this genre.
I have really enjoyed all these books, now on #4. They are different as they go into great detail about everyday things which is enjoyable sometimes, especially with the pets. I do see some discrepancies that I believe another reader pointed out. The one I find the most disappointing is the age of the main character and that of her mother. I do wish authors cared enough about their readers to keep the facts more accurate. Other then that I cant find too much to pick at. I liked the characters and all the people involved and the stories but one other thing I do have to take issue with is her job. I lived in a large city before I retired and I cannot remember ever going to an open house that was "staged" the way she talks about in these books. It is so over the top and how anyone could find themselves wanted to live in one she has staged is beyond me. They are good mysteries though, only figured out 1 so far.
[bookcoverStaged to Death|17415188][bookStaged to Death|17415188] on kindle. Kismet PA. Caprice DeLuca is an interior designer who stages homes with different themes to sell them. Doesn't matter if they are the richest or just meager people in town. Her imagination runs in high gear. Her last one is the large castle of her friend Roz Winslow and her husband Ted. He refuses to lock up some of his greatest possessions; swords and daggers the night of the open house. All goes well until Caprice finds Ted in a very warm kiss with another woman. Her dilemma? Does she tell her good friend Roz? Before she gets the chance, both her and Roz find Ted murdered with one of his own daggers. Roz becomes the main suspect and Caprice uses her contacts and vivid imagination to try to solve this murder and clear Roz. A great sleuth mystery, with some interesting chances at romance for Caprice thrown in. It was a refreshing romance/mystery book. Can't wait to read the second one. 5 stars
